Sparkle Boots and Avocado Tights
The sparkle boots appear in many scenes throughout the video in both live and animated footage. Here they are depicted against a representation of the mural used for the live scenes made with PomPoms.
Joanna Dance Break shadows
Dance break shadows: The dance break in the middle of the video is a celebration of freedom. It is accompanied by an improvised trio solo featuring oboe and violin by Flight Or Visibility and Tap Dance sounds played by Nicole Pompei. The percussion in the track represents Joanna or the fully free self that Flight Or Visibility aspires to be.
My Name is Joanna
In addition to animated and filmed depictions of Flight Or Visibility, the video features nine close friends of Flight Or Visibility all singing the words “My Name Is Joanna” at various points in the video. This was a way for the creators to include a large array of community members while still maintaining social distance. The name “Joanna” is in parentheses because other individual’s secret names might be different but we all have a name that can give us power if we choose to disclose it.

My Name (Is Joanna)
Described as having “Chaotic bard energy,” Arts organizer, songwriter, and educator Flight Or Visibility wants you to know that visibility is a superpower whether chosen or not. Using the violin and voice together, their classical punk music reminds us that activism is love, self-care is love, and it is our duty to express these loves. Flight Or Visibility is the founder of the Boston Artists Employment Network, and the School of Arts and Social Justice at Make Shift Boston. As a frequent event curator with Boston’s Weird Folk Fest, Flight Or Visibility also teaches private workshops on improvisation, creating healing spaces in the arts, and protest chant writing. They teach songwriting at the Boston Public Schools and previously held a teaching fellowship with Boston Children’s Chorus. Guadalupe Campos is a Chicago native currently working on their BFA in Film/Video at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Campos’ work has mainly explored the interrelated issues between gender identity and LatinX heritage through the usage of multimedia. As of recently Campos has worked with local Boston musicians creating collaborative music videos as well as recounting personal narratives through poetic comics.
