Celene Chen is a poet, artist, zine-maker, and law student at Boston University School of Law.
When Celene was in eighth grade, she began collecting comic books, namely, Batwoman—DC Comics’s first openly lesbian superhero. After she collected every Batwoman issue, she started searching for comics or zines where she could keep reading stories like hers, that of a 2nd-gen lesbian Hongkonger. Then, Celene discovered MICE (the Massachusetts Indie Comics Expo), where dozens of artists sold their comics and zines. She was especially drawn to the autobiographical ones. It had never occurred to her, until that moment, that she could create the story she was looking for.
