When we discussed the possibility of a performance with certain organizations in New York, the name Humorisms was a problem. For us, humorism is searching for ideal forms of our corrupted selves. We will try to awaken a radical alter ego suitable for the space of the Midway Gallery, the key will be work with text, irony and social exaggeration, as well as the processing of experiences from a six-week stay on the American continent.
Jana Orlová is a Prague-based performance artist, poet and researcher. Her theoretic and artistic background enables her to work both as a curator and art critic. Her poetry has been translated into several languages including Hindi and Chinese. In her practice, performance art is a living poetry and she perceives her body as a field of event, working with ritualistic and holistic approaches. Her work is marked by a combination of a minimalistic form and a raw statement. In 2017, she was praised by Next Wave Festival as a one “who challenges the borders between literature, visual art and theatre with a natural lightness.” As a researcher, she is focused on a distinction between performance art and theatre. www.janaorlova.cz/en
A Prague based author will produce a series of performance events fixed on using,,Novononkonfrontno" language, manipulating with "Ready Mad" props, both work with body and art history at the place will be present. Viktor Fuček is a therapist, healer, and urban shaman who uses rituals to restore the sacred in a human-built environment. For this purpose, he creates paintings, installations, and performances in which he pushes the boundaries of what is usually perceived as urban space and shows how experimental practices can help find new strategies to address the problems of contemporary society. This year he successfully completed his Ph.D. studies at the Academy of Arts in Slovakia with his dissertation research “Architecture of Internal Relations” focusing on the interconnections between performance and architecture. www.viktorfucek.net
Pavel Ticho is a Prague-based intermedia artist, teacher, graphic designer and publisher. His authorial approach is characterized by explosive creativity with free movement and openness between the media. He ignores the mundane schemes of the art scene and knowingly relativizes the role of the artist which he links in many of his works. His playful, ironic, even subversive approach appears in the medium of installation, object, painting and performance. www.bestartist.cz
