A collection of work by 17 printmakers, painters and sculptors. The exhibit explores feelings caused not only by the pandemic quarantine, but also by figurative and literal boundaries. The artists are members of Shepherd & Maudsleigh Studio, a community of colleagues who have supported each other through the Covid-19 epidemic. “Before the quarantine, our community worked side by side in 6000 sq. feet of makerspace, focused mostly on printmaking,” said Liz Shepherd, co-founder of the studio. “We particularly enjoyed our lunch hour when we took a break to discuss our work, travels, family, etc. as well as art resources and exhibitions. Most members also, in one way or another, depend on their art practice in our shared space to enhance their emotional well-being, so the sudden pandemic isolation was demoralizing and frankly, frightening. Our solution was to meet daily via this new thing everyone was discovering called Zoom to emotionally support each other as artists and carry the lunchtime community torch. The (un)confined exhibition celebrates our shared experience of struggling to make new work and to move ahead towards a better future.” Shepherd & Maudsleigh Studio, located in West Newton, MA is the work of Liz Shepherd and Rebekah Lord Gardiner. Liz Shepherd received her MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She has exhibited widely, and her work is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts as well as other public and private collections. She is represented by The Boston Sculptors Gallery. Rebekah Lord Gardiner received her BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a Bookbinding certificate from the North Bennet Street School, where she serves on the Board of Advisors. She exhibits with the Sculptors at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, MA.

In addition to Liz Shepherd and Rebekah Lord Gardiner, the artists included in the exhibition are Sandra Cardillo, Alison Darrow, Elissa Freud, Catherine Garnett, Kitty Gormley, Gail Hansen, Sharon Hayes, Suzanne Moseley, Catherine Owens, Molly Paul, Andrew Plaut, Danielle Pratt, Rachel Silber, Dorothea Van Camp, and Debbie Kurlansky Winer.
