In the past year I have gone back to drawing, well drawing in a more traditional way. I have for the past number of years been drawing into and onto photographs using text, symbols, chemicals and razor blades to create introspective stories and self exposing messages delivered in two and three dimensional format in addition to a small scale book format.

Even though I have not abandoned this work, the latest drawings are constructed of overlapping layers of vellum or glassine over what I refer to as “reclaimed atlas”. I am drawing with repetitive lines, words, or single letters to simplify the presentation of a more complex message or story. Addressing the continual use of a historical reference, the old atlas pages are well suited, the letter “I” being slightly self absorbed represents a connection to past stories, drawing on a long used and ongoing theme.
